About Rory

Based on the border between Counties Donegal and Fermanagh, Rory Gill is a young Artist in his twenties working to develop a unique style of painting. Through the medium of oil paint, Rory uses brush and palette knife to explore the depth of shape and colour in the natural world.

As a self-taught artist he has grown up understanding the world through always creating. Rory is a keen musician having studied Jazz and Contemporary Music at Dublin City University, he applies his conceptual knowledge of improvised music into his art.

An important part of his connection between music and visual art is synaesthesia, this is a neurological condition that cross-wires the senses. In Rory’s case, colours are heard as harmony and sounds are seen as shape and colour. Synaesthesia is unique to everyone that has it, and gives a unique perspective into the understanding and manipulation of both visual art and sound. He considers art to be an ever-evolving exploration of how we see the world around us.
